Over a Century of Excellence
Harkrider-Keith-Cooke, mainly a produce company, was established in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1906 by Ben E. Keith and other associates. In 1931, with controlling interest in the company, Mr. Keith had the company renamed to Ben E. Keith Company.
After years of experience and industry expansion, Ben E. Keith Company acquired distribution rights of Anheuser-Busch products including bakers yeast, ginger ale, Bevo, Near Beer and malt syrup during the time of prohibition. After prohibition was repealed in 1933, the refrigeration used for produce and food product distribution became profitable for beer distribution. Ben E. Keith Company was well on its way to providing growing communities with more quality products.
Ben E. Keith Beverages, the nation’s third largest beer distributor, services more than 10,000 retailers throughout the state of Texas and sold 39 million cases of product in 2008 through its ten distribution centers located in Abilene, Austin, Commerce, Dallas, Denton, Fort Worth, Houston, Llano, Palestine, and Waco. These branches distribute Anheuser-Busch products to 59 counties in Texas and craft and import brands statewide.
On March 1, 2008 Ben E. Keith Beverages acquired C.R. Goodman Distribution Company, a distributor of more than 60 high-end craft and import beer brands. These newly acquired brands include Spaten, Real Ale Fireman’s #4, Full Sail, Anchor Steam, Dogfish Head, Ace Cider, Breckenridge, König, Stone, Duvel, Samuel Smith and Chimay. Because of this new acquisition Ben E. Keith was able to solidify distribution for Brooklyn beers, Deschutes, Summit, and Oskar Blues with several more breweries lined up for the near future. Ben E. Keith was also able to purchase brands from Authentic Distributing in September of 2008 and Glazers in February of 2009. Brands acquired include Left Hand, Steamworks, Tommyknocker, Green Flash, Sierra Nevada, Asahi, Flying Dog, St. Arnold's, and many more. These partnerships have created exponential growth opportunities for Ben E. Keith as the craft segment continues to grow and consolidation between brewers continues to occur.
