History
In June, 1639, Jonas Bronck a Swedish Captain for the Dutch Indian Trading Company navigated up the East River in a ship, The De Brant Van Troyen (The Fire of Troy), and made his home on a piece of land he had acquired from the Indians across the Harlem River.
Jonas was a farmer by trade but like many of the early pilgrims Jonas brewed his own Ale on his farm and it is established that he was the first brewer outside New York City limits.
Upon Jonas’ death his brother Pieter Bronck moved to Green County N.Y and built a Dutch homestead house. Constructed in 1663 the Bronck House is the oldest structure in Upstate New York. In addition to the Dutch farmhouse Pieter was a successful Brewer and tavern owner practicing the old Bronck family pastime.
