One of Europe's most modern breweries is based in Kreuztal-Krombach: The Krombacher Brewery Bernhard Schadeberg GmbH & Co. KG. It is thanks to its distinct flavour and high quality that the company's flagship brand, Krombacher Pils, has evolved to become the outstanding ambassador of its place of origin - both on the German domestic market and far beyond the national boundaries. This is supported by an on-going, determined brand strategy that has made Krombacher Pils Germany's best-selling beer brand.

It all began in 1722, when the mining inspector, Fresenius, was prospecting for precious metals in the foothills of the Rothaar Mountains, a densely-forested region noted for its water springs, when he discovered something of even greater value than ore: the Krombach mountain spring. Besides the choice raw materials and the well-guarded, secret brewing recipe, the soft spring water, which is low in minerals, is the very basis of Krombacher pilsener beer`s triumphant success. The Krombacher Brewery was founded in 1803 and has been in the hands of the Schadeberg family for generations. Retaining this autonomy remains their declared aim for the future, too. With a total output of more than 5 million hectolitres, the company has succeeded in defending its leading position in the German brewing industry to this day. Moreover, the proprietors intend to maintain not only their position as a front runner, but also to expand, despite the shifting emphasis on today's beer market: With innovative products and packaging types, with high investments in plant and brand enhancement, through trend-setting co-operation agreements with select partners from industry, catering and trade.

Krombacher beer is at present being exported to 48 different countries.
