Voraciously hoppy and not overly bitter. The Kind brings enormous aroma and maximum flavor. It’s like taking a walk through a pine forest and ending up at a citrus farm. This beer brings joy to the world, one sip at a time.

Let's travel back in time again for another Dogfish Head Ancient Ale (Midas Touch was our first foray and Theobroma our most recent). Our destination is 9,000 years ago, in Northern China! Preserved pottery jars found in the Neolithic villiage of Jiahu, in Henan province, have revealed that a mixed fermented beverage of rice, honey and fruit was being produced that long ago, right around the same time that barley beer and grape wine were beginning to be made in the Middle East!

Best With:
This beer is best served on its own as a nightcap.

With a deep golden color, an "India Pale Ale" by definition is highly hopped and high in alcohol (ours is 6.9% alc./vol.). Two full weeks of "dry hopping" give this beer its abundant hop aroma and crisp hop flavor.

Best With:
This IPA's generous hop character makes it an ideal pairing with spicy foods such as barbecue, dry-rubbed ribs, or ethnic cuisine such as curry based Indian food, wasabi based Japanese dishes, or spicy Thai entrees.

Rogue Dead Guy Ale

Product - Rogue Dead Guy
Brewed By:
Rogue
Self-Defined Style:
Maibock
Strength (ABV):
6.5% ABV

Gratefully dedicated to the Rogue in each of us. In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with Maierbock as the elixir. Strangely, the association with the Grateful Dead is pure coincidence. Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue's proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast.

Best With:
This amber colored ale pairs nicely with brothy soups, salted almonds, game birds and seafood. This brew also offers a nice companion to cheeses and fruits.

HazelNut Brown Nectar is a nutty twist to a traditional European Brown Ale. Dark brown in color with a hazelnut aroma, a rich nutty flavor and a smooth malty finish. Dedicated to the home brewer in each of us--the homebrewed who inspired this creation is Chris Studach, a friend of Rogue's resident wizard John Maier, who added a Northwest twist to the classic style by adding hazelnuts for the host homebrew at the 1993 American Home brewers Association convention. Chris put the nut in nut brown!

Best With:
This Hazel flavored Nut Brown Ale is amazing with spicy pies such as pumpkin, pecan and mincemeat!

Product - Rogue Shakespeare
Brewed By:
Rogue
Self-Defined Style:
Stout
Strength (ABV):
6.0% ABV

Stout was first introduced by Guinness in Ireland as "Extra Stout" (a stronger version of their Porter). Later, the stronger Imperial and Double Stouts emerged. Sweet, Milk, and Oatmeal Stouts are English adaptations with less alcohol and less bitter then the dry Irish Stouts. Victorian England recognized Oatmeal Stouts nutritional value and it is traditionally the drink of choice for nursing mothers and athletes. Rogue's Shakespeare Stout is ebony in color, a rich creamy head and a mellow chocolate aftertaste.

Best With:
Rogue's Shakespeare Stout is equally at home with oysters as it is with a homemade pizza and freshly tossed green salad (or as a float over ice cream).

Rogue Brutal IPA

Brewed By:
Rogue
Self-Defined Style:
India Pale Ale
Strength (ABV):
5.8% ABV

Dedicated to Justin Fisch, the Shade Man, and the official beer of the Rogue Nation. Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping.

Best With:
Using "maritime" barley varieties it is not surprising that bitters meld effortlessly with seafood especially fish and chips. Pork, roasted and fried poultry and roast beef dishes are at home with ESB's.

Brown Angel comes at you with three levels. At the heart the beer is layer upon layer of pure, delicious malt. Columbus and Amarillo hops add an intense hop presence while a final layer of East Kent Goldings delivers a delicate floral finish. This is NOT your old school brown, but a rather sexy American interpretation.

Best With:
Brown ales typically have a mild hop presence and a subtly sweet, complex malt character that meshes beautifully with honey and tomato based barbecue sauce on all manner of grilled meats. Brown ale also shines with French onion soup, and could even work with a mild cigar.

Product - CS TS
Brewed By:
Clown Shoes
Self-Defined Style:
Belgian Style IPA
Strength (ABV):
7.0% ABV

This Belgian India Pale Ale is as much a work of art as our labels and will begin shipping to stores late next week. Brewed with a complex yet soft malt bill, this beer is all about not so subtle seduction. Tramp Stamp combines the same Chambly yeast and sweet orange peel we use in our Clementine White Ale but kicks it up a notch with the addition of Columbus, Amarillo, and Centennial hops. The marriage between aggressive hops, sweetness from the Chambly yeast and orange peel, and the innocence of the malts create a very unique Belgian IPA-best described as “bodacious”.

Best With:
With a bold emphasis on hop bitterness, India pale ales are the ultimate beverage pairing for spicy dishes. The sharp hop presence in most India pale ales can stand up to even the most devilish of spices in Cajun, Malaysian, Japanese, Indian, and Mexican cuisine.

Product - CS Clem
Brewed By:
Clown Shoes
Self-Defined Style:
Belgian style White Ale
Strength (ABV):

Light-bodied and crisp, this is a terrific seasonal packed with plenty of zest! Hazy in appearance and healthily carbonated, it utilizes Chambly yeast to energetically shape its wheat malt base. Incorporated in the brewing process is Clementine, sweet orange peel, a hint of Coriander, and Summit hops.

At a sly, easy-drinking 5.9%, Clementine is dynamic and flavorful enough to satisfy discerning craft beer palates, yet light enough to count among “sessionable” beers.

Poured high into a pint or traditional pilsner style glass, drinkers can sip away lazy summer afternoons.

Best With:
As for food pairings, it is the perfect compliment to a range of salads and seafoods or light cheeses such as Feta, Monterey and Gruyere.

Brewed By:
Shipyard
Self-Defined Style:
India Pale Ale
Strength (ABV):
5.8% ABV

Feeling Hoppy? The Shipyard IPA is a single-hopped ale that satisfies the discriminating India Pale Ale enthusiast. Wonderfully balanced and deceptively smooth. Fuggles are a traditional variety English hop and their mild spicy aroma makes them highly prized by brewers. These classic hops were first propagated in 1875 and are named after the farmer who cultivated the strain in East Kent, England. The hop is a vine and the part used to aromatize and flavor beer is the cone-like flower. Its complex aromas predominate in a dry, crisp ale.

"The antithesis of unearthly." The hexagram talisman has been used around the world for centuries to invoke magic and good luck. The six–point star is also the customary symbol of the brewer, representing the essential aspects of purity: water, hops, grain, malt, yeast, and of course, the brewer. Wishes of good fortune often collaborate with the brewer’s creativity to yield dramatic results. We carefully chose the name for this Imperial India Black Ale, Iniquity – a word opposing goodness. Why? This beer is contrary to what one may expect from an IPA; this is an ale as black as night.

Offering light roast malt on the nose and on the tongue a sweetish caramel gives way to a mouthful of smoky, dry maltiness, and an astringency on the finish that comes entirely from the brown, black and chocolate malts, rather than hops; and there are an awful lot of Fuggle hops in our porter.

And of course, you'll only find 100% premium quality pears in Magners Pear, which we filter to get rid of any impurities before fermenting slowly.

That's what makes Magners Pear so fresh, fruity, and full of flavor. So next time you're out and wanting a bit of a change, pour a Magners Pear, sit back and enjoy.
