Cisco Mooncusser Ale

Mooncusser IPA Label
Brewed By:
Cisco Brewers
Self-Defined Style:
Hoppy East Coast IPA

Mooncusser Ale – a hoppy East Coast IPA. The ale is aptly named for the legend of the “Mooncussers,” Chatham’s pirates of previous centuries. They would lure ships in on stormy nights with their lanterns, seemingly into a safe harbor, only to have its sailors surprised when they crashed into rocks along the shore. The Mooncussers would then overcome the sailors and loot their cargo. It didn’t always work on clear nights when the moon was bright on the ocean because the sailors could see the rocks ahead, hence making the pirates “cuss the moon.”

Shouldn't mow the lawn.
That lone white cloud -- looks like rain.
Guess I'll have a beer.
Lizzie, Arlington, Mass.

If you're looking for another reason to try Pretty Things this summer, we hope a well-stated 7% pale lager might be a good bet too. We hear what you're saying: "a filtered Pretty Things lager"? Nothing strange about that, we love all sorts of beers!

Best With:
Golden lagers are among the most diverse food beers, with the more straightforward American lagers pairing well with fried and oily foods, particularly pizza and pub grub, and the more assertively bitter Bohemian and German pilsners, which work wonderfully with saltwater fish.

Product - Pretty Things Jack D'Or
Self-Defined Style:
Saison Americain
Strength (ABV):
6.4% ABV
Bitterness (IBU):
45 IBU

"Jack D'Or" is a simple table beer, or "Saison Americain" as we're referring to it. We are not trying to coin a beer style – we’re just having fun. At PRETTY THINGS we don't brew styles per se. Instead, we re-imagine everything and leave the style numbers in books on the shelves where they belong. What that means is that while other people might be able to put our beers into a category, we have a hard time with it! Our beers are first and foremost creative beasts, not "types" of beer. Jack D'Or is the kind of beer Martha and I like to drink before, after and during a great meal.
