Fruit Ale

A light fruit ale, made with Maine wild blueberries. As opposed to many of the sweeter fruit beers on the market, our addition of fresh Maine wild blueberries in this light ale yields a subtle blueberry aroma, without the sweet aftertaste. A mixture of the following Mutton malts, pale, crystal, and Munich, are combined with wheat to give this ale its lighter body, and we only use minimal amounts of Target and Willamette hops.

When we changed it into a Belgian Style Triple, Death thought it would only be appropriate to bring something from that beer into this beer. So he picked the mailbox, and we weren’t about to argue with him. You can say what you want about him, but that Death sure has a big heart.

Dogfish Head

Double Imperial IPA
Strength (ABV):

Too extreme to be called beer? 120 Minute IPA is brewed to a colossal 45-degree plato, boiled for a full two hours while being continuously hopped with high-alpha American hops, then dry-hopped daily in the fermenter for a month and aged for another month on whole-leaf hops!

Clocking in at 15-20% ABV and 120 IBUs, 120 Minute is by far the biggest IPA ever brewed! It's easy to see why we call this beer THE HOLY GRAIL for hopheads!

We brew 120 Minute IPA a few times a year, but it goes fast. If you find some grab a few bottles -- some to enjoy and some to age.

Founders Old Curmudgeon Ale

Product - Founders Old Curmudgeon Ale
Brewed By:
Founders
Self-Defined Style:
Barley Wine
Strength (ABV):
9.3% ABV

This Old Ale conjures up thoughts of classic sea fairing ports, there local pubs and the weathered fisherman that frequent them. In traditional style Curmudgeon is brewed with an intense focus on the malt bill creating a very strong, rich, malty characteristic and a sweetness indicative of its cousin the barley wine. We are especially proud of the balance in this beer making it deceptively smooth and drinkable at 9.3% alcohol by volume.

Primarily thought of as a digestif, it turns out that barley wines have an affinity to lamb, venison and wild boar. Classic cheeses such as English and Vermont cheddars as well as aged Gruyeres from Switzerland. Gratefully dedicated to the Rogue in each of us. In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with Maierbock as the elixir. Strangely, the association with the Grateful Dead is pure coincidence. Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue's proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast.

Kölsch
Strength (ABV):

Light and fragrant, Samuel Adams® East West Kölsch has a floral and herbal character that balances the refreshing German Kölsch style. A classic Kölsch is less bitter than a pilsner with a slightly fruity and sweet biscuit note. For our version we wanted to create a bright fresh flavor by using Alsatian Strisselspalt hops for a subtle lemon and grassy hop note. We added another layer of flavor by aging the beer on a bed of Jasmine Sambac, a fragrant night blooming flower from Southeast Asia. The jasmine creates a delicate floral aroma and flavor for a wonderfully complex and refreshing brew.

HISTORY

Best With:
Bruschetta Smoked Salmon Smoked Salmon is a flavorfull and rich fish that needs a moderate to full hop character to contrast. Boston Ale, Samuel Adams Latitude 48, or Noble Pils would all be excellent choices. Bruschetta can be a difficult pairing with its combination of flavors so it calls for a balanced and flavorful beer like Samuel Adams Boston Lager or Noble Pils. The initial maltiness works with the bread while the Noble hop finish helps cut through the cheese and acidity of the tomatoes. Lasagna The malt base in Samuel Adams Boston Lager and Noble Pils match the seasoned beef or sausage used in this sauce. The citrusy and floral hops will also complement the tomato's acidity and help lighten the taste of the cheese and pasta that often accompanies this sauce.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

Strength (ABV):

Feeling Hoppy? The Shipyard IPA is a single-hopped ale that satisfies the discriminating India Pale Ale enthusiast. Wonderfully balanced and deceptively smooth. Fuggles are a traditional variety English hop and their mild spicy aroma makes them highly prized by brewers. These classic hops were first propagated in 1875 and are named after the farmer who cultivated the strain in East Kent, England. The hop is a vine and the part used to aromatize and flavor beer is the cone-like flower. Its complex aromas predominate in a dry, crisp ale.

As an unfiltered Belgian-style wheat ale, this beer is naturally cloudy with a light golden color. The beer is best enjoyed in a tall, wide-mouthed glass. To serve the brew perfectly, follow these pouring guidelines. Pour the brew down the side of the glass until about one-half inch of brew is left in the bottle. Lay the bottle on its side and roll it gently back and forth, mixing the remaining yeast that has settled at the bottom. Pour the rest of the brew, producing a nice, thick collar of foam.

Our most popular beer, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, is a delightful interpretation of a classic style. It has a deep amber color and an exceptionally full-bodied, complex character. Generous quantities of premium Cascade hops give the Pale Ale its fragrant bouquet and spicy flavor.

Creamy, malty, and full-bodied, the Sierra Nevada Stout is satisfyingly rich. Caramel and Black malts give the Stout its deep, dark color and pronounced roasted flavor.

“Sierra Nevada Stout is admirable from nose to finish, with notes of malty sweetness to the palate but plenty of bitterness available to set up a stimulating counterpoint.” – Christopher Finch, A Connoisseur’s Guide to the World’s Best Beer

GOLD MEDAL WINNER
California State Fair (Stout, Sweet & Foreign: 2000)

Best With:
Black malts give Stout a smokiness that demands an equally intense flavor pairing. Smoked or raw oysters are a traditional accompaniment, but other shellfish serve equally well. For vegetarian dishes that stand up to Stout, try lentil stew, marinated eggplant, or smoked tempeh. Stout also makes a delightful dessert beer when matched with creamy tiramisu or toasted almond biscotti.

Ever since Stash Wojciechowski, the “Killer Kielbasa,” created this Imperial IPA for our Big Beer Series, Big A IPA has gotten a lot of attention. Lauded by the New York Times and Men's Journal Magazine, it’s been one of the most talked-about beers around. Brewed in very small quantities, it has also been one of the hardest-to-find. Until now.

Big A IPA has everything you’d want in an India Pale Ale, only more: more hops, more malt & more flavor. Na zdrowie!

Best With:
A general rule of thumb with this beer is 'the spicier the better.' The impressive hop bitterness in this beer can stand up to just about any degree of spiciness in dry rubbed ribs, Cajun cuisine, curry based Indian food, or wasabi spiced Japanese fare.

1926 saw the birth of one of the most important additions to the family, Stella Artois. Stella, the Latin word for star, was first introduced in celebration of the festive season. It was an instant sensation, and became so popular that it stayed in demand throughout history, and for decades to come. It is full-bodied with an alcohol content of 5.2% ABV and is best enjoyed at a cool 3o C.

This is an aggressive ale. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth. We would suggest that you stick to safer and more familiar territory–maybe something with a multi-million dollar ad campaign aimed at convincing you it’s made in a little brewery, or one that implies that their tasteless fizzy yellow beverage will give you more sex appeal. Perhaps you think multi-million dollar ad campaigns make things taste better. Perhaps you’re mouthing your words as you read this.

Stone Imperial Russian Stout is so thick, rich and well, sinful you might feel certain that you are to be doomed to the fiery pits just for thinking about taking a sip. It almost seems evil. Rest assured, however, that our ever faithful gargoyle has done his job well by successfully warding off all evil spirits. In fact, we guarantee that no sin was committed in the production of this seemingly pernicious brew. We will admit that we used copious does of decadence in creating the viscous beauty you have before you, but no actual sin… You’ll have to add that on your own.

Best With:
The roasted and burnt malt notes of stout and its typical hearty nature make it an exceptional compliment to raw or steamed oysters, however stout is also at home with most chocolate or cream based desserts.

When reading the name "stone Cali-Belgique IPA", "Cali-" hints that it's a California-style IPA, and this beer has an undeniable Belgian influence, indicated by the word "Belgique" (which is how Belgium's French-speaking population says the word "Belgian"; the Dutch-speaking Belgians say België"). We carefully selected a Belgian yeast strain that illuminates a fascinating new aspect of the beer that is otherwise quite simply Stone IPA. The result is both completely new and different., while still being recognized as a Stone Brew - and Stone IPA in particular.

Brewed in the authentic historical style of an Imperial Russian Stout, this beer is massive. It's been said that "Gravity Sucks." Simple enough. Well, we at Stone have identified gravitational forces in the beer world. And we have come to the conclusion that they, well, see above. So we avoid these less-than-desirable gravitational forces. We avoid dumbed-down flavor profiles and the vigorous pursuit of the lowest common denominator. We avoid big dollar marketing mentalities. We avoid additives, cheap adjuncts, stabilizers and chemical preservatives. So in the defiance of gravity we bring you Stone Levitation Ale.

Best With:
This IPA's generous hop character makes it an ideal pairing with spicy foods such as barbecue, dry-rubbed ribs, or ethnic cuisine such as curry based Indian food, wasabi based Japanese dishes, or spicy Thai entrees.

This is an aggressive beer. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth. We would suggest that you stick to safer and more familiar territory --- maybe something with a multi-million dollar ad campaign aimed at convincing you it’s made in a little brewery, or one that implies that their tasteless fizzy yellow beer will give you more sex appeal. Perhaps you think multi-million dollar ad campaigns make a beer taste better. Perhaps you’re mouthing your words as you read this.

Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine

Product - Stone Old Guardian BW 2012
Brewed By:
Stone Brewing Co.
Self-Defined Style:
Barley Wine
Strength (ABV):
11.0% ABV
Bitterness (IBU):
85 IBU

Allow us to present you with the Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine, in all its unadulterated glory. We make small adjustments to the recipe every year, just a little bit...as it provides an opportunity to try some different hops or malts. For the 2012 release, we made a deliberate effort to move away from the English hop influence of the past few years, taking out the East Kent Golding hops, subbing in a blend of American Chinook, Calypso and Cascade. Yes, that's right, Cascade.

Best With:
Primarily thought of as a digestif, it turns out that barley wines have an affinity to lamb, venison and wild boar. Classic cheeses such as English and Vermont cheddars as well as aged Gruyeres from Switzerland. Caramelized desserts as crème brûlée and crepes as well as a good vanilla ice cream can finish a wonderful evening of food and beer.

Stone Ruination 10th Anniversary IPA

Product - Stone Ruination 10th Ann
Brewed By:
Stone Brewing Co.
Self-Defined Style:
Merican IPA
Strength (ABV):
10.8% ABV

Stone Ruination Tenth Anniversary IPA was created as an homage to the almighty hop. As the celebrated Stone Ruination IPA approached its 10th birthday this June, we knew we had to do something special, so we cranked it up from 7.7% to 10.8% and used twice as much hops–a whopping 5 pounds per barrel, including a pound each of Citra and Centennial in the dry hop. The results were GLORIOUS, but don't take our word for it. The only people more bitter than those who don't get any... will be those who do.

Black IPA

First brewed in 2007 as the Stone 11th Anniversary Ale, this ale was an instant hit. With us. Other folks with great taste loved it too, but we were focused on how much we liked it, and we felt it was truly sublime. That euphoria didn't last long though, as it was soon replaced with the grim reality that when we sold out of it there wouldn't be any more. For us. And that was simply unacceptable. So, we are now blessing ourselves, and you the enlightened, with this ale. Thusly, you may now revel in your own self-righteousness as you see fit with this glorious example of ours.
