Great Brews

All German Beers are highly recommended. Unlike most of their American counterpart,s Gemrn brews are made under the strict German Purity Law of 1516 which does not allow adjuncts, rice, or corn flakes, etc to be used as fermentables - thus giving them a much richer and cleaner taste and profile. Only barley or wheat grains may be used with water and yeast - that's what real beer is! Many watered down American beers rely on idiotic sales pitches of 'great taste / less filling' (when taste is exactly what they lack). Others seem to think that because they're cold, that's why we should drink them! Code blue, frost brewed, 'because we know you like cold beer' infer that temperature is a flavor, when in fact the colder the beer, the less taste is has. Fortunately, there are more and more American micros that actually get it and brew beers for people whop appreciate the taste of beer - not water.

Anyone remember the grocery store cooler back before it turned into a kaleidoscopic fantasy world of beer options? You pretty much had two choices: Regular or Light. In 1989, when we brewed our first batch of Full Sail Amber, not only was it the first Amber ale here in Beer Mecca (aka Oregon) -- it was the first craft beer to go into a bottle. And two things became immediately apparent. It wasn't Regular and it sure as heck wasn't Light. Our Amber is a sweet, malty, medium-bodied ale with a spicy, floral hop finish. It's brewed with 2-row Pale, Crystal and Chocolate malts.

And when they went out of business, America not only lost the breweries, it lost what American beer used to taste like. Session is our way of bringing back the pre-Prohibition American Lager. It's an all-malt Continental Pilsner brewed with American and European hops, so it's flavorful, refreshing, and has a touch of that import-style taste.

India Pale Ale, so-called because of the market it was created for, was first brewed in Burton-Upon-Trent in 1822. Demand for an English ale amongst British troops serving in India was high, so the ale sent out to the East was heavily hopped and brewed to a high gravity, so that it could ferment slowly throughout the long journey, reaching the peak of its condition as it arrived. Fuller's own premium quality India Pale Ale reflects all the traditional characteristics associated with this historic beer.

When first seeing Harpoon Ale in a glass, you will notice its golden caramel color. You will also see that it is not excessively carbonated. High carbonation would mask this beer's subtle flavor. The second perceptible aroma is from the malt, with a delicate caramel note. Upon tasting Harpoon Ale, you will find that the malty, fruity character is nicely balanced by the mild hop bitterness. It has a smooth, medium body.

Brewed By:
Harpoon
Self-Defined Style:
Hefeweizen
Strength (ABV):
4.8% ABV

This beer displays a cloudy golden color and a dense, frothy head. The yeast, which has not been filtered out, accounts for the cloudiness of UFO. Wheat malt tends to create a larger head than barley malt, the cereal grain most often used in brewing. The aroma has a faint but clear citrus-like character. This is produced by the special yeast and accounts for the Bavarian tradition of serving hefeweizens with a lemon. The lemon accentuates the yeast's fruity, tart fragrance. UFO has a soft mouth feel and a refreshing, light body.

Pinkus
Self-Defined Style:
Unfiltered Organic Pilsner
Strength (ABV):
5.2% ABV

Golden pilsner with bright, elegant bitterness was developed in Pilsen, Czechoslovakia, in the mid-19th century and German brewers began to brew "pils" very soon after. Pinkus Ur Pils, brewed with organic malt and hops, has another connection to the beers of 150 years ago: no chemical fertilizers or pesticides are used to produce the malt and hops. "Ur" translates roughly from German to "original."

Certified Organic by the USDA-accredited ABCERT GmbH.

Taste: Pale golden in color; light to medium in body; dry and well-balanced; clean hop and malt character.

Best With:
Trout amandine, fresh salmon, hors d'oeuvres, Quiche Lorraine, Cobb salad, gazpacho, tabouli, garlic and shallot sauces, thick potato chips, fresh strawberries or cherries. Serve in delicate, straight-sided tumblers at 45 degrees.

Also known as Long Hammer, this brew embraces the IPA tradition of a strong hop profile while remaining approachable and easy to drink with its smooth flavor and clean finish. Redhook uses Cascade hops because they impart a wonderful hop aroma without an overpowering hop taste.

This IPA pairs nicely with spicy ethnic dishes and grilled meats.

Rogue Dead Guy Ale

Product - Rogue Dead Guy
Brewed By:
Rogue
Self-Defined Style:
Maibock
Strength (ABV):
6.5% ABV

Gratefully dedicated to the Rogue in each of us. In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with Maierbock as the elixir. Strangely, the association with the Grateful Dead is pure coincidence. Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue's proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast.

Best With:
This amber colored ale pairs nicely with brothy soups, salted almonds, game birds and seafood. This brew also offers a nice companion to cheeses and fruits.

INTENSE AND WARMING, A MEAL IN A BOTTLE. Brewed since the 13th Century, these malty lagers are still some of the biggest and most sophisticated beers around. Bock is the German word for "billy goat" and pictures of goats graze the labels on many bocks and double bocks. We shied away from the goats on our label, but we certainly didn’t shy away from the use of malted barley in this beer.

Best With:
The intense flavors of Double Bock go well with rich meats like duck, quail or pork tenderloin. You can also match the rich sweet flavors with some hearty desserts like cheesecake or crème brulee. But in all honesty, you could just have a pint on its own for dessert and be completely satisfied.

In the late 18th and early 19th centuries there was a considerable trade in beer to India. Leaving the India Docks in London, ships would sail around the Cape of Good Hope through the Indian Ocean to Bombay and beyond, a three-to four-month trip. Highly hopped pale beers brewed to withstand the trip became known as "IPA," India Pale Ale. A restrained maltiness and an emphasis on the aroma and flavor of hops from England's finest vineyards.

Wonderful balance of roasted crystal malt and aromatic hops. Long clean finish.
