Gradually evolved from an English town called Burton-upon-Trent that was known for its distinctive hard water supply and propensity to brew a lighter colored beer than was common at the time. Named after the infamous 1969 burning of the Cuyahoga River.

Harpoon 100 BBL - Frankenfest

Substyle - American-Style Märzen Oktoberfest
Brewed By:
Harpoon
Self-Defined Style:
Octoberfest Lager
Strength (ABV):
6.9% ABV

Frankenfest is brewed in the tradition of classic German Oktoberfest lagers. In order to replicate the complex malt character of the original, a blend of 8 different malts was used. The combination yields a slightly darker color and a toastier malt flavor. Frankenfest is judiciously hopped with three different varieties of hops that lend just enough bitterness to balance out the rich malt flavors. It has a dry finish compliments of an authentic German lager yeast and a longer rest in our conditioning tanks.

Best With:
Great with potato croquettes, frites, pork, roasted or fried chicken, fried fish, veal and all manner of sausages.
product:

Harpoon 100 BBL - Bohemian Pilsner

Substyle - Bohemian-Style Pilsener
Brewed By:
Harpoon
Self-Defined Style:
Pilsner
Strength (ABV):
4.7% ABV

Our Pilsner is made from three different European malts including a large portion of Pilsner malt which provided the slightly sweet and malty backbone of the beer. In order to achieve the crisp bitterness and aromatic nose, we brewed with Tetnanger and Czech Saaz hops. The beer was dry hopped with the Saaz as well. The authentic Bohemian Pilsner yeast added depth and after a prolonged lagering period helped produce much of the character of this beer. Our Bohemian Pilsner has a smooth, slightly malty flavor that is balanced with a crisp bitterness and clean hop aroma.

Best With:
A great Bohemian-style pilsener will always work with all seafood dishes, broth based soups and tapas. This brew also lends itself nicely jambalaya, falafels, and certain Caribbean dishes. Don't forget a good pilsner is also excellent with bar foods.

Harpoon Ale

Substyle - American-Style Pale Ale
Brewed By:
Harpoon
Self-Defined Style:
American Pale Ale
Strength (ABV):
5.0% ABV

When first seeing Harpoon Ale in a glass, you will notice its golden caramel color. You will also see that it is not excessively carbonated. High carbonation would mask this beer's subtle flavor. The first aroma will be fruity. This is produced by the yeast and is a signature characteristic of Harpoon's proprietary yeast strain. The second perceptible aroma is from the malt, with a delicate caramel note. Upon tasting Harpoon Ale, you will find that the malty, fruity character is nicely balanced by the mild hop bitterness. It has a smooth, medium body.

Best With:
Pizza, beef, and shellfish.

Harpoon IPA

Product - Harpoon Ipa
Brewed By:
Harpoon
Self-Defined Style:
India Pale Ale
Strength (ABV):
5.9% ABV

The high hopping of Harpoon IPA is not only noticeable in the nose but especially in the finish. The lingering bitter finish of this beer is not harsh or astringent, but crisp and pronounced. This is created, in part, by dry hopping - a technique that involves adding fresh hops to the conditioning beer to provide a fresh hop aroma.

Best With:
Grilled seafood, Thai food, spicy chicken.

Harpoon UFO Hefeweizen

Product - Harpoon UFO Hefeweizen
Brewed By:
Harpoon
Self-Defined Style:
Hefeweizen
Strength (ABV):
4.8% ABV

This beer displays a cloudy golden color and a dense, frothy head. The yeast, which has not been filtered out, accounts for the cloudiness of UFO. Wheat malt tends to create a larger head than barley malt, the cereal grain most often used in brewing. The aroma has a faint but clear citrus-like character. This is produced by the special yeast and accounts for the Bavarian tradition of serving hefeweizens with a lemon. The lemon accentuates the yeast's fruity, tart fragrance. UFO has a soft mouth feel and a refreshing, light body.

Best With:
Spicy foods and seafood.

Harpoon UFO Raspberry Hefeweizen

Product - Harpoon UFO Raspberry Hefeweizen label
Brewed By:
Harpoon
Self-Defined Style:
Raspberry Hefeweizen
Strength (ABV):
4.8% ABV

UFO Raspberry Hefeweizen is Harpoon's interpretation of the European practice of adding fruit flavors to wheat beers. It is an enjoyable marriage of beer and fruit flavors. After you have poured half the beer into a tall wheat beer glass, swirl the bottle three times to combine the yeast that may have settled to the bottom. Pour the remaining beer into the glass to create a generous, foamy head.

Best With:
Pork, cheeses, and chocolate cake.
product:

Harpoon Octoberfest

Product - Harpoon Oktoberfest
Brewed By:
Harpoon
Self-Defined Style:
Oktoberfest Märzen
Strength (ABV):
5.5% ABV

The character and complexity of Harpoon Octoberfest comes from the malt and hops. When looking at a freshly poured Harpoon Octoberfest, you will notice the garnet-red color with a firm, creamy head. The beer's color is from a blend of Munich, chocolate, and pale malt. The thick head results in part from wheat malt added to the grist. The hop aroma of this beer is not overpowering but it is present. Tettnang hops add a subtle spice nose that blends with the malt character. This beer is full-bodied, smooth, and malty.

Best With:
Pork and sausages.

Product - Hoegaarden
Brewed By:
Hoegaarden
Self-Defined Style:
Belgian White Beer
Strength (ABV):
5.0% ABV

Hoegaarden is the authentic Belgian wheat or white beer. It has a unique and extremely complex brewing process whereby the brand is first top fermented and then is refermented within the bottle - ending up in a unique cloudy-white appearance. The brand's unique appearance is mirrored by its one-of-a-kind taste - sweet and sour beer with a little bitterness, slightly spicy, with a strong touch of coriander and a hint of orange, perfect for warm summer days, instead of other refreshing beverages. Refreshing, a little quirky, and decidedly different - naturally.

Best With:
This Belgian-style wheat beer works well on its own as an aperitif, but also pairs well with lighter fare such as salads with a citrus dressing. It can work surprisingly well with omelets made with apples and goat cheese. Some people enjoy this beer with a slice of orange as a garnish.

Gratefully dedicated to the Rogue in each of us. In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with Maierbock as the elixir. Strangely, the association with the Grateful Dead is pure coincidence. Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue's proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast.

Best With:

Ever since Stash Wojciechowski, the “Killer Kielbasa,” created this Imperial IPA for our Big Beer Series, Big A IPA has gotten a lot of attention. Lauded by the New York Times and Men's Journal Magazine, it’s been one of the most talked-about beers around. Brewed in very small quantities, it has also been one of the hardest-to-find. Until now.

Lager
Strength (ABV):
5.2% ABV

1926 saw the birth of one of the most important additions to the family, Stella Artois. Stella, the Latin word for star, was first introduced in celebration of the festive season. It was an instant sensation, and became so popular that it stayed in demand throughout history, and for decades to come. Today, Stella Artois is renowned as a quality beer conditioned for an average of 6 - 11 days longer than most other beers. It is full-bodied with an alcohol content of 5.2% ABV and is best enjoyed at a cool 3o C.

Best With:
This lager would be a fine companion served cold with pizza or pub food, but would also do quite well to have beside a light whitefish cooked with white wine and some crisp greens on the side.

Stone Arrogant Bastard Ale

Brewed By:
Stone Brewing Co.
Self-Defined Style:
American IPA
Strength (ABV):
7.2% ABV

This is an aggressive ale. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth. We would suggest that you stick to safer and more familiar territory–maybe something with a multi-million dollar ad campaign aimed at convincing you it’s made in a little brewery, or one that implies that their tasteless fizzy yellow beverage will give you more sex appeal. Perhaps you think multi-million dollar ad campaigns make things taste better. Perhaps you’re mouthing your words as you read this.

Best With:
This IPA's generous hop character makes it an ideal pairing with spicy foods such as barbecue, dry-rubbed ribs, or ethnic cuisine such as curry based Indian food, wasabi based Japanese dishes, or spicy Thai entrees.

Stone Double Bastard Ale

Product - Stone Double Bastard Ale 2012
Brewed By:
Stone Brewing Co.
Self-Defined Style:
American Strong Ale
Strength (ABV):
10.5% ABV

This is one lacerative muther of an ale. It is unequivocally certain that your feeble palate is grossly inadequate and thus undeserving of this liquid glory...and those around you would have little desire to listen to your resultant whimpering. Instead, you slackjawed gaping gobemouche, slink away to that pedestrian product that lures agog the great unwashed with the shiny happy imagery of its silly broadcast propaganda.

Best With:
This beer is best served on its own as a nightcap.

With a deep golden color, an "India Pale Ale" by definition is highly hopped and high in alcohol (ours is 6.9% alc./vol.). This medium bodied, refreshing ale displays light-medium malt character with a heavy dose of over the top hops! Two full weeks of "dry hopping" give this beer its abundant hop aroma and crisp hop flavor.
