Duvel is unique. No other beer is made like it, or tastes like it. Blonde and refreshing like a Pilsner, but with the flavor, depth and complexity of an ale, Duvel defines the Strong Golden Ale category. It's this beguiling nature that has made Duvel a Belgian favorite.

How big a bummer was Prohibition? As if taking everyone's brew away wasn't bad enough, hundreds of little independent breweries that once made super tasty beers basically got worked. And when they went out of business, America not only lost the breweries, it lost what American beer used to taste like. Session is our way of bringing back the pre-Prohibition American Lager. It's an all-malt Continental Pilsner brewed with American and European hops, so it's flavorful, refreshing, and has a touch of that import-style taste.

Pork and sausages.

Harpoon
Self-Defined Style:
Hefeweizen
Strength (ABV):
4.8% ABV

This beer displays a cloudy golden color and a dense, frothy head. The yeast, which has not been filtered out, accounts for the cloudiness of UFO. Wheat malt tends to create a larger head than barley malt, the cereal grain most often used in brewing. The aroma has a faint but clear citrus-like character. This is produced by the special yeast and accounts for the Bavarian tradition of serving hefeweizens with a lemon. The lemon accentuates the yeast's fruity, tart fragrance. Gratefully dedicated to the Rogue in each of us. In the early 1990s Dead Guy Ale was created as a private tap sticker to celebrate the Mayan Day of the Dead (November 1st, All Souls Day) for Casa U Betcha in Portland, Oregon. The Dead Guy design proved popular and was incorporated into a bottled product a few years later with Maierbock as the elixir. Strangely, the association with the Grateful Dead is pure coincidence. Dead Guy is a German-style Maibock made with Rogue's proprietary "PacMan" ale yeast.

Best With:

The Brown Ale style originated in the pubs of England, where beer drinkers desired a beer that was both flavorful and complex, but at the same time mild enough to be a session beer. The Santa Fe Brewing Company’s interpretation of this style uses a combination of high mash temperature, hard water, and low-alpha acid hops to produce a product that is both true to the style and distinctly Santa Fe. Brewing jargon aside, Santa Fe Nut Brown Ale is an easy-drinking beer, mild, smooth, and always a favorite. Try a keg at your next party!

Brooklyn Brooklyner Weisse

Product - Brooklyn Brooklyner Weisse
Brewed By:
Brooklyn
Self-Defined Style:
Hefeweizen
Strength (ABV):
5.1% ABV

Refreshing, light, and brisk, wheat beers have been popular in Bavaria for centuries. Weissbier or hefeweizen (wheat beer with yeast) was once brewed exclusively by the Bavarian royal family. In the 1800s they were popular among German immigrants to the United States. Our Brooklyner Weisse is brewed in the classic German style from German wheat and barley malts. Our special Bavarian yeast produces the flavors and aromas that wheat beers are prized for: bananas, cloves, and melon, with a smoky note in the background.

Best With:
Brooklyner Weisse pairs well with your favorite dishes. Its light touch is perfect with all sorts of salads. It's great with egg dishes at brunch, Mexican dishes and spicy Asian cuisine. It's also terrific with seafood, especially snapper, salmon, shrimp, and crab cakes.

Product - Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse
Brewed By:
Brooklyn
Self-Defined Style:
Dry-hopped Weizenbock
Strength (ABV):
8.5% ABV

This brew is the result of the long friendship of Brooklyn brewmaster Garrett Oliver and Schneider brewmaster Hans-Peter Drexler. Garrett had always admired the delicate balance of flavors in Schneider Weisse, while Hans-Peter had long enjoyed the effusive hop character of Brooklyn East India Pale Ale and BLAST! Garrett’s concept for the collaboration was that each brewmaster would brew essentially the same pale, hoppy weissbock in the other’s brewery, but with different hopping to reflect the local hop flavor.

Dry-hopped with American Amarillo and Palisade hop varieties.

Best With:
"I think a perfect thing for it would be salmon done in a Thai curry sauce…not something really, really spicy, but a little bit spicy so you have the classic pairing of a little bit of hop bitterness together with all the kind of tropical aromas that you have going on there, the mango, pineapple, and banana aromas." - Garrett Oliver, Brewmaster

Amber Ale
Strength (ABV):
5.2% ABV
Color (SRM):

Named in honor of our founder Jeff's bike trip through Belgium, Fat Tire Amber Ale marks a turning point in the young electrical engineer's home brewing. Belgian beers use a far broader pallet of ingredients (fruits, spices, esoteric yeast strains) than German or English styles. Jeff found the Belgian approach freeing. Upon his return, Jeff created Fat Tire and Abbey Belgian Ale, (assuming Abbey would be his big gun). He and his wife, Kim traveled around sampling their homebrews to the public. Fat Tire's appeal quickly became evident. People liked everything about it. Except the name.

Best With:
Chef Todd Davies, Partner of Tap House Grill, recommends fontina stuffed banana peppers with smoked chicken, fennel sausage, corn flan, and tomato fonduta. Spicy banana peppers cut the sweet malts, as the stuffing of the sweet hickory smoked chicken and fennel scented sausage complement, the fontina adds a pepperey element, complimenting the hops. The tomato sauce, cooked with fat tire, blends and smooths the ingredients, and the sweet corn flan cuts the spice, while adding and intensifying the sweetness of the malts.

The long, cold nights of winter are a little brighter with Celebration Ale. Wonderfully robust and rich, Celebration Ale is dry-hopped for a lively, intense aroma. Brewed especially for the holidays, it is perfect for a festive gathering or for a quiet evening at home.

Best With:
With an ale as big as Celebration, you need a dish assertive enough to hold its own. Rich meats such as prime rib, lamb, or wild fowl underscore Celebration's huge aroma, making a wonderful holiday meal. Intense, earthy pastas also work well - try goat cheese ravioli, a rich fettuccine, or gnocchi with Gorgonzola cheese sauce.

Here in the sun-drenched fields of California’s North Valley, the black soil is rich with promise.
In winter, rows of barley seed are laid in the freshly tilled dirt. In spring, trellises are set for hops.
From our fields comes a remarkable homegrown ale, made with organic wet hops and barley grown at our brewery here in Chico and one of the few estate-made ales produced anywhere in the world!

Golden Bock

As winter begins its slide toward the sunny days of spring, we bring you Glissade Golden Bock to help you enjoy the ride. Glissade is a remarkably mellow take on the traditional spring bock. With restrained sweetness, we emphasize subtle malt flavor, balanced against delicate aromas of spicy and floral European hops. This complex balance helps Glissade slide across the palate—bracing us against the last cold nights of winter, while its bright golden color turns our thoughts toward spring.

Best With:
Bock beers tend to be quite strong, yet they retain the characteristic clean, straightforward malt character of lagers that lends to heartier meats such as roasted or grilled pork tenderloin, venison, kangaroo steak, or wild boar.

Sierra Nevada Northern Hemisphere Harvest Ale
Brewed By:
Sierra Nevada
Self-Defined Style:
Wet Hop Ale
Strength (ABV):
6.7% ABV
Bitterness (IBU):

The cornerstone of our Harvest series is the beer that started the modern-day fresh hop ale phenomenon in America, our original Harvest Ale.

Created in 1996, Harvest Ale features Cascade and Centennial hops from the Yakima Valley in Eastern Washington. These hops are harvested and shipped as “wet” un-dried hops—the same day they are picked—to our brewery in Chico where our brewers eagerly wait to get them into the brew kettle while their oils and resins are still at their peak.

Best With:
Sierra Nevada Harvest goes great with any wood-grilled steak, especially a ribeye with house-made steak sauce.

Sierra Nevada Porter

Self-Defined Style:
Porter
Strength (ABV):
5.6% ABV

Dark and rich, Sierra Nevada Porter is a delicious, medium-bodied ale with a creamy head. The Porter's smooth flavor (malty with hints of caramel) comes from a blend of deep-roasted barley malts.

Best With:
While porters are traditionally paired with steak (think Porterhouse), its deep maltiness is an equally perfect match for the rich, smoky flavors of grilled Portobello mushrooms. The creaminess of Porter's chocolate and caramel malts also makes it a perfect accompaniment to desserts, especially those made with chocolate.

The fragrant bouquet and spicy flavor of pale ale lends to this beer’s ideal match with generously spiced foods such as Southern barbeque, wasabi crusted Japanese dishes, and curry based Indian dishes. This style is also the perfect complement to grilled meats, burgers, and pizza.

Our take on the classic European amber lager. It has bright reddish highlights and a pronounced bready malt aroma reminiscent of its Austrian counterparts. The flavor plays slightly toward caramel and toasted lager malt but remains balanced and drinkable with a clean finish perfect for a summer session.

Best With:
The straightforward carmelized malt and hop balance in amber lagers enable them to pair with a wide variety of food items, particularly grilled or braised poultry, sausages, and pizza.

Strength (ABV):

This is an aggressive ale. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth. We would suggest that you stick to safer and more familiar territory–maybe something with a multi-million dollar ad campaign aimed at convincing you it’s made in a little brewery, or one that implies that their tasteless fizzy yellow beverage will give you more sex appeal. Perhaps you think multi-million dollar ad campaigns make things taste better. Perhaps you’re mouthing your words as you read this.

Best With:
This IPA's generous hop character makes it an ideal pairing with spicy foods such as barbecue, dry-rubbed ribs, or ethnic cuisine such as curry based Indian food, wasabi based Japanese dishes, or spicy Thai entrees.

Self-Defined Style:
Imperial Russian Stout
Strength (ABV):

Bitterness (IBU):

Brewed in the authentic historical style of an Imperial Russian Stout, this beer is massive. Intensely aromatic (notes of anise, black currants, coffee, roastiness and alcohol) and heavy on the palate, this brew goes where few can - and fewer dare even try. The style originated from Czarist Russia's demand for ever thicker English stouts. Expect our version of this mysterious brew to pour like Siberian crude and taste even heavier!

Best With:
Hot molten chocolate mud cake is the ideal pairing for this beer, however it works beautifully on its own as a digestif.

Stone Brewing Co.
Self-Defined Style:
Barley Wine
Strength (ABV):
11.0% ABV
Bitterness (IBU):
85 IBU

Allow us to present you with the Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine, in all its unadulterated glory. We make small adjustments to the recipe every year, just a little bit...as it provides an opportunity to try some different hops or malts. For the 2012 release, we made a deliberate effort to move away from the English hop influence of the past few years, taking out the East Kent Golding hops, subbing in a blend of American Chinook, Calypso and Cascade. Yes, that's right, Cascade.

Best With:
Primarily thought of as a digestif, it turns out that barley wines have an affinity to lamb, venison and wild boar. Classic cheeses such as English and Vermont cheddars as well as aged Gruyeres from Switzerland. Caramelized desserts as crème brûlée and crepes as well as a good vanilla ice cream can finish a wonderful evening of food and beer.
