American Pale Ale
Strength (ABV):

A special top-fermenting ale yeast is used during fermentation and is responsible for many of Liberty Ale's subtle flavors and characteristics. Carbonation is produced by an entirely natural process called "bunging," which produces champagne-like bubbles. Dry-hopping (adding fresh hops to the brew during aging), imparts a unique aroma to the ale. It is a process rarely used in this country today.

Great Divide Yeti Imperial Stout

Yeti
Brewed By:
Great Divide
Self-Defined Style:
Imperial Stout
Strength (ABV):
9.5% ABV

Traditionally, Imperial Stouts, the biggest and boldest of all stouts, were brewed with massive amounts of roasted malts and hops, resulting in a velvety smooth but robust beer characterized by high alcohol content and extremely high hop bitterness. Meeting the challenge of this aggressive, challenging beer style, Great Divide's Yeti Imperial Stout is an onslaught of the senses. An almost viscous, inky-black brew, Yeti opens with a massive, roasty, chocolate, coffee malt flavor that eventually gives way to rich toffee and burnt caramel notes.

Best With:
Our friends Kate and David at Denver's finest artesian cheese and exotic food shop, The Truffle, pair Yeti Imperial Stout with Roquefort, a French sheep's milk blue cheese. Also, grilled pork tenderloin, filet mignon with blue cheese sauce, cheesecake.

Samuel Adams
Self-Defined Style:
Imperial Stout
Strength (ABV):
9.2% ABV
Color (SRM):
45º L
Bitterness (IBU):
50 IBU

A MASSIVE BEER – ONCE BREWED FOR ROYALTY. Samuel Adams Imperial Stout is our take on the traditional Russian Imperial Stouts from the 18th century. English brewers supplied these stouts for the Russian Imperial Court of Catherine the Great, who had taken a great liking to the beer. In order for the beer to survive the long trip to St. Petersburg, the flavor and alcohol needed to be amped up to preserve the beer.

Best With:
The strong and intense flavors of the Imperial Stout pair well with foods that have flavors to match or complement the beer. Foods that are mild in flavor will be overpowered by the beer. For a cheese pairing, we recommend pairing the stout with aged strong cheeses like Stilton blue cheese or aged Gouda. Cioppino or rare roast beef will also pair well as they will cut some of the sweetness of the beer. The dark roasted malt in the Imperial Stout brings out chocolate aromas and flavors making it a tasty pairing with coffee or chocolate desserts. But the classic pairing for stouts are a plate of raw oysters. The roasted bitterness of the stout is contrasted by the saltiness and subtle sweetness from the shellfish. Simply amazing.

Smuttynose

Rich meats, wild fowl, intense earthy pastas are great choices as well as stews and chilies. Strong and sharp cheeses would pair nicely.

Ever since Stash Wojciechowski, the “Killer Kielbasa,” created this Imperial IPA for our Big Beer Series, Big A IPA has gotten a lot of attention. Lauded by the New York Times and Men's Journal Magazine, it’s been one of the most talked-about beers around. Brewed in very small quantities, it has also been one of the hardest-to-find. Until now.

Big A IPA has everything you’d want in an India Pale Ale, only more: more hops, more malt & more flavor. Na zdrowie!

Best With:
A general rule of thumb with this beer is 'the spicier the better.' The impressive hop bitterness in this beer can stand up to just about any degree of spiciness in dry rubbed ribs, Cajun cuisine, curry based Indian food, or wasabi spiced Japanese fare.
