Self-Defined Style:
Oak Aged English Strong Ale Samael's Ale is a super-caramelly, oak aged English-style strong ale. Perhaps the least hoppy (sacrilege here at Avery!!) beer we've brewed, to accentuate the malt. The oak is very apparent in this rich and high gravity ale, adding additional depth and complexity with a woody and cask-like nose and a pronounced vanilla flavor on the palate.
With the addition of a more roasted malt in 2007, Samaels now delivers subtle bitterness to add balance to the natural sweetness. Cellarable for 10+ years
Very limited annual April release
Best With:
Gamey meats, wild fowl, intense earthy pastas are great choices as well as stews and chilies. Strong and sharp cheeses would pair nicely.

Comments
Great
Appearance: caramel color
Aroma: sweet smelling with a little earthy tone
Flavor: The caramel flavor of this beer is extremely prevalent. Also, there is some earthy flavor that is almost like almonds.
Mouthfeel: Best if allowed to warm a little and sip. Coats mouth like candy or liquour.
Overall Impression: One of my all time favorites. Sweet and full bodied. high alcohol content. Made for sipping.
Comments: Good with desserts or by itself. Great with a meal or just meat and cheese.
