IBU - 85 hoppy points....
Double Dog
A medium amber without much of a head. As a double pale ale its got a ton of alcohol, 11.5%, though it isn't entirely obvious. Additionally, while it does contain a good deal of hops, I got a malty afternoon. This really gave it more depth and put it above other pale ales I've tried.
What's that sound of a DOUBLE DOG....OOORAHH!!!
pours a hazy golden caramel with a white cream head that slowly fades to some lacing and a thin layer of foam. The smell of this is very earthy, lots of pine aromas, like i'm smelling a fresh tree. The first sip is a shocker: full on hop attack, very similar taste to its aroma. The hop execution is very good. What makes it so good is the malt back bone. flying dog does what perhaps only Marin's IPA does (but on a different level), match the hops with almost as much malt. This is a hophead's dream beer. The malt gives is a sweet coating, mostly for texture. It's big a thick, like syrup. The malt doesn't take over the flavor, but eases the pallet. This beer is extremely refreshing even if it's hoppy and thick, and for almost 12% you can feel it down the road, but it doesnt let you know that it's big. Such a beatutiful thing this beer is.
