Andrew Jefford, the respected UK drinks critic, sums up ESB's flavor thus: ''an ample, grainy-nutty aroma and a broad, authoritative flavor, with lashings of dry marmalade-like bitters'', whilst 'Beer Supremo' Roger Protz describes ''an enormous attack of rich malt, tangy fruit and spicy hops in the mouth, with a profound Goldings peppery note in the long finish and hints of orange, lemon and gooseberry fruit''.

Best With:
This clean bitter can be used as a digestif or with game style meats like boar, veal or even a hearty steak. With its caramel notes this strong ale pairs with chocolates and sharp cheeses, as well as traditional bar foods.

Fullers ESB Tasting Notes

Tap at Pound and Pence, NYC. Wonderful beer. Pours an amber-red with a fine white head. Nose is tame, with notes of light hops. Flavor is delicious, with a strong yet understated hop character, and hints of caramel and bitter fruit. Ultimately clean, crisp, and somewhat sticky finish. Smooth enough to session and bitter enough to remain intriguing. Great drink.
