"I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big, the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation, we brought in some bourbon barrels that aged the stout. One hundred days later, Bourbon County Stout was born. A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with thick foam the color of a bourbon barrel. The nose is an intense mix of charred oak, chocolate, vanilla, caramel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said it's a great cigar beer. But I have yet to try a cigar that can stand up." Greg Hall, Brewmaster

Tasting Note Bouboun County Stout
From my blog:

So, I have heard a lot about the Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout and all I can say after finally buying a bottle and trying it is, WOW.
This beer is a strong beer with intense flavor and aromas. At 13% ABV it is no lightweight and is designed for cellaring. I happened to pick up a 2008 bottle that as bottled on 10/21/08 and enjoyed on the date of this post.
Here are the Brewmaster Notes from the brewer himself:
Brewed in honor of the 1000th batch at our original Clybourn brewpub. A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with thick foam the color of a bourbon barrel. The nose is an intense mix of charred oak, chocolate, vanilla, caramel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. A great cigar beer.
I have to say I agree with him 100% about one sip having more flavor than your average case of beer. Also, I think although I haven't tried it would go nice with a quality cigar.
Here is my break down:
Appearance: 9 of 10
Aroma: 14 of 15
Taste: 38 of 40
Finish: 34 of 35
Total: 95 of 100
Needless to say I truly enjoyed this beer and will have to buy more of it once I get my cellar fridge and age a batch and try them at different intervals and see how much it matures and changes overtime. If you get a chance try this.
And that's ... From My Mellin!
