Brewed By:
Maine Beer Company
Self-Defined Style:
India Pale Ale A hoppy American IPA brewed with 2-row Vienna, Wheat and Crystal malts. Has a slight orange hue. Hops used include Warrior, Centennial, Simcoe and Amarillo.
Best With:
With a bold emphasis on hop bitterness, India pale ales are the ultimate beverage pairing for spicy dishes. The sharp hop presence in most India pale ales can stand up to even the most devilish of spices in Cajun, Malaysian, Japanese, Indian, and Mexican cuisine. User login

3.6 Overall
Appearance: I’m not a fan of opaque amber bodies in an IPA usually and this is no different, the head is thick white leaving lots of lacing and good retention.
Aroma: The aroma reminds me of MO with tropical and citrus aromas, some grapefruit and pineapple, slight orange juice aromas as well. The aroma is a little on the light side though.
Flavor: Clean malt body that’s balanced well with the light bitterness of light pine, grapefruit, and bitter orange coming through strong by the finish, in-fact the orange sort of takes over by the end.
Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with a crisp feel to it, light carbonation.
Overall Impression: I like this, but I’m not in love with it. The orange flavor is a bit too strong though throwing the balance off and the price is a bit steep to drink often. I prefer MO, it’s better balanced.

Lunch - all day, everyday
To me, the best thing about Maine Beer Co.'s Lunch is that it is balanced to the bitter end (pun intended). In my humble opinion IPAs (especially east coast IPAs) can get out of control with the bitterness wreaking havoc on the good ole taste buds, but Lunch is smooth and the bitterness is perfectly offset by notes of citrus and perhaps even a little lychee. This beer is dank; its got some weight, but it maintains a freshness I usually associate with...well with fresh-hopped ales. Its got a great amber/copper color; even the slightly barnyardy smell is appetizing.
The Peeper Ale is a stunner, but I think MBC is really onto something with Lunch. I'd pair it with a pork stir fry, spicy sushi or anything with a flavor kick. But, to be honest I drink Lunch like it is its own meal. Lunch for lunch; Lunch for dinner. Lunch for breakfast would be aggressive, but whatever works for ya.
