Self-Defined Style:
Double IPA Imperial (double) IPA, a style recently developed by American craft brewers, is the IPA analog to imperial stout. In other words, take every characteristic you'd normally associate with an India Pale Ale - primarily hops and alcoholic content - punch it up a few notches, and you've got an imperial IPA. Ranging from golden to amber in color, these beers have complex flavor and aromatic qualities derived from their fruity esters, high alcohol and medium to high malt content.
Best With:
A general rule of thumb with this beer is 'the spicier the better.' The impressive hop bitterness in this beer can stand up to just about any degree of spiciness in dry rubbed ribs, Cajun cuisine, curry based Indian food, or wasabi spiced Japanese fare.

Wow hops
a cloudy pale straw, with frothy lingering head. as soon as you begin to pour you can smell the citrus-ness of the hops. the flavor is real bitter/grapefruit-like on the front end with an extra dry finish. sure, not for everyone, but a must have for true hopheads
Smuttynose Big A IPA
Tap at Barcade. Pours a deep orange with a thick, white head. Emanates all varieties of hops in the aroma. Some pine and citrus, for example. Flavor is rich and very smooth. Bitterness is not aggressive, but rather quite sweet. Surprisingly sweet, in fact, though with some earthy, resinous tones. Clean, lightly bitter aftertaste. An excellent, well-balanced double IPA. I loved it. (4.4/5)
