Widmer Brewmasters' Release W'12 Dark Saison
Submitted by rch on Mon, 01/09/2012 - 7:03pm
Brewed By:
Widmer
Self-Defined Style:
Saison Inspired by the classic French farmhouse ale, our interpretation of the Saison style gets its dark color and deep ruby hue from a hint of caramel and dark chocolate malts. While the beer is darker than many examples of the style, the citrus spice of Saaz hops provides a perfect balance of complex fruity esters with earthy and spicy notes. Dark Saison finishes slightly tart with a drying, clean, and pepper-like finish.

W'12 Dark Saison
Dark amber. Nice carbonation
Widmer Brothers W12 Dark Saison
Clear, dark brownish, ruby hue. Aromas of raisins, slightly grapey, some spice. Tastes like raisins and fruity esters, some tomato flavor, nutty finish with some lingering, prickly spice. Smooth, fresh and highly carbonated mouthfeel, similar to a peppery iced tea.
