Widmer Hefeweizen, known as America’s Original Hefeweizen®, is the most popular and top-selling hefeweizen in the country. Winner of the 1998 Gold Medal at the Great American Beer Festival, Widmer created the American-style hefeweizen category. Ever since Widmer introduced hefeweizen to America, it has been the standard by which all other hefeweizens are judged.
Widmer's brewing process starts with yeast from their own proprietary pure culture. It is comprised of malts such as pale, wheat, munich, and caramel. Tettnanger and Cascade hops are also used to add bitterness and aroma to the brew. Then, the beer is left in its natural, unfiltered state to retain a pronounced citrus and flora aroma, complex flavor, and crisp, refreshing finish.
