In case you missed our last newsletter, a few members of the Hunterdon crew took a trip up to New Hampshire last month to learn all about the cider making business from our friends at Farnum Hill. Their project for the day was to help create a special cider recipe that would be exclusive to the New Jersey market. A pretty cool experience! Hunterdon team members John Hoyos, Drew Sewall and Pete Martin first got a tour of the farm and then spent the day sniffing, swirling and tasting before deciding which apples they wanted to be part of the final blend. At that point, the magic was left in the hands of the Farnum Hill crew. After a wee-bit of recipe tweaking, the Hunterdon-Farnum Hill cider, named Dooryard Batch #1131NJ, has arrived and is ready for tasting! Our first ever collaborative project!
Here are the tasting notes from our friends at Farnum Hill:
"#1131NJ has a nose of ripe, sweet fruits, including apricot, peach, tangerine, pink grapefruit, quince, bittersweet apple, and melon. In the mouth, these fruits are joined by a bright acidity, and mild, broad bitterness. The mouthfeel is full, with moderate astringency. The finish follows the taste, with a bit more bitterness, and warmth. These guys did a good job."
Apple varieties included in this batch: Wickson, Dabinett, Esopus Spitzenberg, Kingston Black and Major.
