WTF and more exciting news from Lagunitas

It goes without saying that craft beer is booming in the US. Nearly every craft brewery across the country is having trouble keeping up with the demand for high-quality beer. As a result, major expansions are well underway at many of these leading craft breweries, including Lagunitas Brewing Company. Just two years ago they were ranked as the 29th largest craft brewery in the country and pretty soon they'll be rivaling some of the top producers. Their phenomenal growth spurt in the past year has forced them to triple the size of their current brewery; a project that will take them from an 80 to a 250 barrel brewhouse. In 2004, almost ten years after owner Tony Magee founded the brewery, they were pumping out a mere 27,000 barrels per year. Last year their production topped 100,000 barrels and with their new digs they'll have the capacity to crank out up to 600,000 barrels in the upcoming years. Now that's not a little Sumpin' Sumpin'...that's A LOT of Sumpin' Sumpin'! Just for a frame of reference, Sierra Nevada produced 760,000 barrels in 2010!

Now that they'll have all those extra tanks, Lagunitas is taking their suds to the slopes! In February of this year, they announced that they will be the official sponsor of the USA Ski Jumping Team! Hey, now you have a reason to head to Russia in 2014 for the Olympic Winter Games! It may be freezing, but there will be some tasty Lagunitas brews to make it all worthwhile.

Here's a few excerpts from the recent press release:

“Lagunitas understands that they are much more than a sponsor. They’re a partner in helping grow the
ski jumping sport out of the margins and onto the front page,” said USASJ Executive Director Jeff Hastings.
“We are thrilled to have them. They have a broad and growing market and a very loyal customer base we
hope to engage.”

Lagunitas has always supported music festivals and other regional events; this will be Lagunitas’ first major
sports sponsorship. With sustained growth since its founding in 1993, Lagunitas CFO Leon Sharyon saw
the partnership with USASJ as an opportunity to help both organizations grow with little risk involved.

“We have always proudly supported our community and friends in need. It was clear that USASJ needed
a few new friends,” said Lagunitas CMO Ron Lindenbusch.“This sponsorship is right in line with our basic
philosophy – we try to find ways to turn beer into money to help the cause and we always seem to make
a few new friends of our own along the way.”

Cheers and the best of luck to Lagunitas and all their future endeavors!

Full bodied, hints of citrus and tangy tangerine are evident in a massive complex hoppy flavor and aroma, but balanced by an assertive maltiness. "At the height of the heat in the heart of the summer, we felt the only cure was a raging mouthful of fresh Hops and Malt. Caution: May remove enamel from teeth."

Best With:
Double IPA's carry with them the same basic characteristics as their single IPA cousins so most food pairings will remain consistent.

Thanks for choosing to spend the next few minutes with this special homicidally hoppy ale. Savor the moment as the raging hop character engages the imperial qualities of the Malt foundation in mortal combat on the battlefield of your palate!

Best With:
This IPA would have a wonderful relationship with a hearty meal of steak, stew or chili. Strong and sharp cheeses, like the Roquefort or Stilton pair nicely.

Lagunitas Censored Ale

Product - Lagunitas Censored
Brewed By:
Lagunitas
Self-Defined Style:
Rich Copper Ale
Strength (ABV):
5.9% ABV

Medium bodied, lots of caramel malt. "This ale contains no actual copper but we're pretty literal... It looked coppery, so we lamely called it a copper ale. Lots'a nice caramel malt though..."

Best With:
This clean copper ale can be used as a digestif or with game style meats like boar, veal or even a hearty steak. With its caramel notes this strong ale pairs with chocolates and sharp cheeses, as well as traditional bar foods. Affectionately known as "the Kronik," this California favorite is known to match best with a party and a good time.

Lagunitas Undercover Ale

Product - Lagunitas Undercover Ale
Brewed By:
Lagunitas
Self-Defined Style:
Imperial Mild
Strength (ABV):

Our oxymoronic 'Imperial Mild' - A redux to remember the '05 St. Paddy's Day Massacre. Defiant as to style ... We can say for sure it is unforgiven and unrepentant.

Lagunitas

Brand - Lagunitas
Brewery:
Lagunitas Brewing Company

From our earliest days of striving to make consistently good beer, and instead making beer that ranged from vile, to barely drinkable, to wonderful, to elegant, to questionable-at-best. From being castigated by our West Marin neighbors to finally suffering an 'eviction' by our West Marin septic system. From landing in the welcoming arms of Petaluma, and actually getting our beer into bottles, onto the streets, and into the hands of sympathatic beer geeks, to steadily losing less money each month.
