Energy drinks are usually carbonated and are made with water, flavorings, sweeteners, and stimulants such as caffeine and guarana. Some energy drinks also include vitamins and herbal supplements.
History: The first marketed energy drink was Irn-Bru (iron brew), which was produced in Scotland in 1901. However, it was not until 1997 that energy drinks became a widespread phenomena, with the introduction of Red Bull in Austria. In the United States, energy drink sales exceeded $6.6 billion in 2007.
