Classic, extremely drinkable pilsner.Its low bitterness and moderate body make it a perfect session brew.

The brewers at Smuttynose bumped up the acidulated malt to balance the mash pH and were able to mimic a traditional pilsner quite well. They also boiled the water first to soften it enhancing the smoothness of the brew.

Best With: 
Grilled chicken, turkey, sausages. Mild cheeses. Seafood.

PLANK is a series of beers showcasing unique wood ageing treatments to add flavor and nuance. PLANK II is a Dopplebock Style Lager matured with specially treated Eucalyptus and Poplar wood planks which were placed in the fermenter during secondary fermentation. The beer pours a deep reddish brown. Look for impressions of toffee and chocolate in the aroma and flavor.

Made in the German “Stein Bier” tradition, this smooth, robust dark lager is brewed with the addition of glowing hot granite to the kettle.

The addition of these Hot Rocks results in a vigorous “super boil” of sorts that caramelizes the sugars in the wort lending toffee, smoky caramel flavors to the beer that wouldn’t present themselves in a normal boil.

The color is a deep, ruby brown with streak of red and the aroma an incredibly inviting one of dark caramel, chocolate and toffee.
