Legend has it that barrels of this ancient brew were found on sunken Viking ships. This Nordic ale took root in Finland becoming one of the oldest continuously brewed styles. This dark amber ale has juniper berries added into the brewing process and is aged on juniper berries giving this brew an earthy, woodsy aroma. The flavor is balanced by the addition of Hallertau Mittelfrueh Noble hops.

The D.L. Geary Brewing Co., Inc. is celebrating 25 years in business by releasing a "Silver Series – Master Brewer's Selection", brews that are created and brewed by Geary's long time brew masters. Geary's is pleased to announce the third selection, Spear's Royal Reserve, created by long time employee and production manager Steve Spear. Spear's Royal Reserve is a classic English ESB, an amber ale brewed with six different malts to produce a rich and complex malt character balanced with three English hops. ABV 6.5%.

The research and development team of pilot head brewer Scott Jennings and pilot brewer Mark Hurd guided our beer-making journey over a long day in and out of the brewhouse. We came up with a hybrid American/Belgian imperial red ale made with Patagonia caramel malt and a variety of hops, and fermented with a special Belgian yeast strain.

Alt. The name of this beer style comes from the German word "alt" meaning "old". This refers to the aging that alts undergo since they ferment more slowly and at colder temperatures than most ales. Slow fermentation helps condition the flavors in Alaskan Amber, contributing to its overall balance and smoothness.

Richly malty and long on the palate, with just enough hop backing to make this beautiful amber colored "alt" style beer notably well balanced.
