Self-Defined Style:
English Ale/ Bitter
Strength (ABV):
4.2% ABV

The Stone of Destiny, or Lia Fail, was the coronation stone of the Kings of the Scots from 840 AD. Originally located at Scone by Perth, it was taken to England in 1296 by Edward I, against the wishes of the Scots. It was returned to Scotland in 1996 and can now be found in Edinburgh Castle.

Lia Fail, the beer, comes from Inveralmond, Perth’s only brewery. This rich, dark amber brew is generously hopped, and took a gold medal in the Premium Bitter category at the 2003 Scottish Society of Independent Brewers annual awards -- Scotland's most prestigious brewing competition.

Inveralmond Blackfriar

Brewed By:
Inveralmond
Self-Defined Style:
English Ale/ Bitter
Strength (ABV):
7.0% ABV

Shortly after Inveralmond Brewery was founded in 1997, its young brewers were already rated among the best in Scotland. Blackfriar is the first in a series of beers honoring the role of the familiar orders of Dominican monks in the history of Perth. It is, naturally, a dark brew, hardy and warming, with a slightly sweet malty character balanced by a nice hoppiness. (Okay, it's actually more of a deep burnt sienna than black, but "Deepburntsiennafriar” just didn’t have the same ring.)

Summit Unchained 06 Gold Sovereign Ale

Summit
Self-Defined Style:
Extra Special Bitter

Gold Sovereign: Where the past meets the future. Combining a 19th century recipe with 21st century ingredients, Gold Sovereign seeks to emulate the pale ales of the Victorian era using ingredients that have only become available in the last few years. The ultra-modern barley variety Westminster gets the traditional malting approach through organic cultivation and malting by hand on the floor. Highly disease and insect-resistant hedgerow hops were developed from classical varieties using time-honoured breeding techniques.

Generally speaking, amber ales are incredibly versatile food beers. Caramalized malts combined with the fruity esters produced during fermentation make amber ales great compliments to grilled meats, particularly beef and pork.

Anchor Small Beer

Brewed By:
Anchor
Self-Defined Style:
Bitter
Strength (ABV):
3.3% ABV

The tradition of brewing two distinct beers from one mash has existed for thousands of years, and for centuries the term "small beer" was used in English to describe the lighter and weaker second beer. We make our Old Foghorn Barleywine Style Ale from the rich first runnings of an all-malt mash, and Anchor Small Beer is our attempt to duplicate the "small beers" of old by sparging that same mash: sprinkling warm water over the Old Foghorn mash after the first wort has run off, thereby creating a second, lighter brew from the resulting thinner wort.
