Brewed at De Proef Brouwerij, Lochristi-Hijfte, Belgium

Big Worse is the long awaited big brother of the small test brew Big Bad Barley Wine. The idea behind Big Worse is still to make a simple yet heavy barley wine - just like it's smaller brother. But this time both the alcohol and bitterness has been pumped up! Big Worse is both thick and sweet and is the perfect beer for desserts. Enjoy it now or keep it for many years. Best stored dark and at cellar temperature.

Ingredients :
Water, malt (pils and caramunich), candy sugar, hops (nugget, cascade and centennial) and ale yeast.

Best With:
With an invigorating warming quality and a robust alcoholic content, barley wines are the ultimate night cap beers. The round, viscous body of barley wine and its fruity complexity enable it to pair well with fresh vanilla ice cream. Some experts also recommend pairing a rich barley wine with a strong Cuban cigar.

A rich, full bodied Barley Wine with a wonderfully warming character from the malts & dark brown sugars. Held to the light, its burgundy color is fitting for a bigger beer that has aromatics that hint of the oak, the whiskey, the somewhat sweet nature, and molasses that makes this beer truly unique. The non-barrel-aged version of this beer took Silver in the 2009 US Open Beer Championships.

Dieu du Ciel
Self-Defined Style:
Barley Wine
Strength (ABV):
9.0% ABV

This noble winter beer is brown in colour with flaming red highlights. Its taste is delicately sweet and liquor-like with a hint of burnt caramel coming from the malt and a prolonged boiling time. It is a very bitter beer with aromas of hops and alcohol, and flavours reminiscent of red fruit brought by the English-type yeast we use to ferment it. The aftertaste is accentuated by the wonderful flavour of hops. Solstice d’Hiver is brewed only once a year, and is then aged for 4 to 5 months before being sold.

Arcadia Ales
Self-Defined Style:
English-style Barleywine
Strength (ABV):
9.1% ABV
Bitterness (IBU):
45 IBU

Brewed in the traditional English style of Barleywines, Cereal Killer is an explosion of full-bodied, malty goodness. Huge syrupy flavors flow over caramel, toffee, molasses and toasty notes. All these rich malt flavors are balanced out nicely by just the right amount of citrus-like hoppy bitterness. A high alcohol content makes this a beer for the cellar. As this brew ages, it will continue to develop more sherry-like flavors and aromas similar to a cask-aged port.

Smuttynose Barleywine

Smuttynose
Self-Defined Style:
Barleywine Ale
Strength (ABV):
11.4% ABV

Barleywine is a term originally used by British brewers to describe very strong ales. Though individual examples of this style vary widely, barleywines are characterized by their full body, high alcoholic content, pronounced residual malt sweetness, fruity esters and, in the case of American versions especially, distinctive hop character, with a flavor profile that can lean towards the sweet or the bitter, or somewhere in between, and a color ranging from amber to deep copper. Barleywines tend to age nicely, especially bottle-conditioned versions, and have become quite collectible.

Best With:
Enjoy this hearty ale with fresh fruit and ripe cheese on a cold winter’s night, or lay it up and savor it with a friend for a special summer treat.

Santa Fe Chicken Killer Barley Wine Ale

Product - Santa Fe Chicken Killer Barley Wine
Self-Defined Style:
Barley Wine
Strength (ABV):
10.2% ABV

Chicken Killer Barley Wine is the revolutionary beer that will someday define America’s unique Barley Wine style. It is brewed with twice the ingredients of the Santa Fe Brewing Company’s other beers, and only half the usual amount of liquid is extracted from these ingredients. This makes one substantial beer. At over ten percent alcohol, Chicken Killer is actually as substantial as wine, but this is not to say that it is difficult to drink. On the contrary; be careful with this one. The flavors of the beer are at first as overwhelming as the intense Santa Fe sun.
