Our Bigfoot Barleywine is a craft beer legend. Each winter, this beast of a beer appears and wreaks havoc on unsuspecting palates with its intense bittersweet flavors. This year—in honor of the 30th Anniversary of this style-bending brew— we’re releasing a very special version of this cult classic: Aged in oak whiskey casks for nearly two years, this barrel-aged Bigfoot is incredibly complex. The assault of resinous hops has mellowed, and the influence of the wood has shifted focus toward the malt—with rich burnt-sugar flavors and notes of vanilla, toasted coconut, and raisins.
This unique and limited offering takes one of our most outstanding beers, the legendary Chicken Killer Barley Wine, and adds even more flavor and complexity. First, we brew the Chicken Killer Barley Wine using twice the ingredients of our other beers, but only yielding half the usual amount of liquid. This concentrated elixir then sits in Wild Turkey 101 bourbon barrels for nine months, giving the beer and oak a chance to mingle their flavors. In addition to a distinct bourbon undertone, this aging process imbues the beer with notes of vanilla, wood, and caramel.
Whether you are writing the correct year by now or not, it’s officially 2013. That means a new Stone Brewing Co. Odd Beer for Odd Years release. The first time around, Old Guardian was “Belgianized”. This year is a oak smoked edition. This beer makes uses of the same smoked malt used in recent collaboration The Perfect Crime. Look for it in February, 2013.
Made to Celebrate Founders 15th Anniversary, Bolt Cutter Barley Wine is an American barley wine that pours deep copper color and is strong, sweet and malt-forward, with a spicy complexity. Typical of the style, it is very cellarable. The final product is a blend using beer that was aged in Bourbon barrels, some from aged maple syrup Bourbon barrels and some from standard fermentation. After blending, the beer was allowed to mature in bottles and kegs for a few months before releasing.
The first sip of this brilliant, red-brown beer reveals a robust mouth feel and complex flavors including raisin, dark bread, some sherry flavors sure to increase with age. With the finish comes the flavor of Columbus hops followed by the alcohol warmth that can be felt down your throat.
Candela (Rye Barleywine): Collaboration: The collaborative efforts between Cigar City Brewing and Green Flash Brewing eventually went down a path with the idea that the resulting brew should not only be a very special brew but also one that will go nicely with a great American cigar…a green wrapper Candela. Technical Description: So massive is this Rye Barleywine after a long and intensive boil that it envelops the 75 IBU of hops given it. The super rich qualities of this brew come from the best British floor-malted, pale barley available.
Almond 22 Noa is an ale that dark orange in color with bright red highlights. It has a delicate nose that will evolve significantly with aging. The mouth feel is warm and elegant with a long herbal finish. It is 10% ABV and should be served at temperatures between 57 and 60 C.
