IN THE LOCAL VERNACULAR OF DUSSELDORF, sticke means “secret,” a nod to the experimental recipes employed by the brewers of this obscure variation on the Altbier. While the recipe for our Sticke Alt is also a secret, we can tell you that it honors the spirit of this special German style ale with its elevated noble hop profile, more pronounced bitterness, and firm malt character.

According to Phil, A generous amount of Munich and Vienna malts give this beer its copper color and toasty-caramel aroma. German noble hops provide complimentary bitterness and a clean, dry finish. The beer has been cold-conditioned for six weeks and goes down smooth. ABV 5.1% IBU 43.

Following in the footsteps of an age old German brewing tradition, Frosty Knuckle Brewing Company has released a rare seasonal beer called a Sticke Alt. Historically, the Sticke (pronounced shtick-uh) was only brewed twice a year, on the third Tuesday in January and the third Tuesday in October.

Frosty Knuckle Ale is a German style ale created by Michael & Patrick Beaton based on the story of Gloucester fisherman Howard Blackburn whose hands froze to his oars while lost at sea in a dory during a winter storm in 1883. After much research, we developed a German Ale style which crosses Helles with Alt- flavorful with great drinkability!

The Victory version of this ‘secret’ offering is inspired by the rich brewing heritage of the alt beers. It is a dark ale exhibiting the love of hops and mastery of malt that Victory has displayed for 10 years. Initially assertive with spicy hops, Ten Years Alt concludes ever so comfortably in rich, roasted malts and burnished hop character.
