This second offering in the ongoing Mad Scientists line of beers is named the "Berserker Bock" in reference to an obscure but significant cultural fact – beer played a significant role in the very influential Viking period in Medieval Europe. The "Berserkers" had brewers accompany them on their voyages, and the brewers would collaborate with local medicine men and forage for herbs, spices, and extra ingredients to place into their brews.

This collaboration with Kaldi’s Coffee uses the cold toddy method of extraction for the coffee. We mix it with our Oatmeal Stout for an exceptionally delicious beer.

PROCESS: Mixed with cold-brewed coffee

The roasted and burnt malt notes of stout and its typical hearty nature make it an exceptional compliment to raw or steamed oysters, however stout is also at home with most chocolate or cream based desserts.

Earl (1911-1985) was our grandfather’s brother; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his 13 siblings. In his honor, this Stout is crafted from American malted barley, Flaked Oats, English roasted malts, American hops, Organic Guatemalan Coffee, our ale yeast, and water from our well. It is unfiltered and naturally carbonated. A silhouette of coffee and malt - an embodiment of complexity and drinkability, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Earl.

Joe is not your average beer. This ale is brewed with locally-roasted, fair trade coffee, Dark Munich and chocolate malts which combine to create a well-balanced, flavorful Porter with a fresh roasted coffee aroma. Good from the first drop. We use 2.5 pounds of coffee in each barrel of this robust porter.
