Summary

I discovered Franconia Brewing about 18 months ago while reading an article about the opening of a new local Brewery in McKinney,TX., so I filed it in the back of my mind to keep an eye out for their beer. About 2 months later my friends (all of whom are referred to by everyone as beer snobs) and I were at the Saucer and decided to try the Franconia Dunkel. Over time it has become my favorite beer of all time. Between the six of us that gather just to try new beers, 5 of us now have one of Franconia's beers as our favorite of all time. In my case #1 (Dunkel)and #2 (Wheat) are my favorite regular fare. The Franconia Oktoberfest is my favorite seasonal beer. We visited the brewery for the first time in May 09, just a little over a year after they opened their doors. Master Brewer Dennis Wehrmann sets an excellent example of local brewing with the motto, "The beer from here!". He not only does a very indepth tour himself, but he takes the time after the tour to answer questions and genuinely get to know the locals that supports his Brewery. Dennis' main concern with his beers is the freshness. This is why he distributes his own beers and for now only carries them in draft. I must say that I was not as versed as I should have been on how important it is for beers to be fresh. With Dennis' help my knowledge of beer in general has grown immensely. I have such a love for his beers that over the past year I have gone from Franconia beer lover to Franconia Brewery advocate. My goal is strictly shelfish in that the more beer I can sell for Dennis the longer I will get to enjoy my fresh Franconia beers!
